Handshake student product updates—May 23, 2025

Following a collection [Launched: May 15, 2025]

Students are now able to follow a collection and will automatically follow one if they match any qualifications associated with the collection. Jobs from followed collections will appear in students’ feeds and they can opt to turn on job alert notifications as well. Students can choose to unfollow a collection at any time. 

Phone number verification [Launched: May 19, 2025] 

Users who create their own accounts are required to verify their phone number to help ensure Handshake remains a safe and secure environment. Students whose accounts are created by career centers (either manually or via an import) are not eligible for phone verification. 

Updated mobile app registration [Beta launch: May 20, 2025]

We’ve refreshed the account registration process on the mobile app to help new users more easily access Handshake. 

Activity limits [Launched: May 21, 2025]

As a safety measure, we have established activity limits for the number of times students can conduct actions such as posting, messaging other users, or commenting on posts within a 24-hour time frame. Once users hit this limit, their accounts are blocked until they can be assessed by the Trust & Safety team.

People search update [Launched: May 22, 2025]

We’ve rolled out a search experience that includes not only students but also employer users. We’ve also made users searchable by their company/role to help students more easily find people of interest to them.
